We already had Rooftop Gardens from teNeues, so at first we had our doubts about Up On The Roof. But it is serious fun! Whereas Rooftop Gardens focuses on the design of (mostly) luxurious rooftops in New York, Up On The Roof is more of a visual story about living on top of New York. Plus photographer Alex MacLean knows his way with perspective, or better yet, the lack of it. The photographs have hardly any vanishing points and because of that everything appears to take place at the same level, and that – in New York – very much isn’t the case. The world on top of the world is already surreal by itself, the lack of perspective even adds an extra layer to that. And as if that wasn’t enough each photo is full of interesting, fun, exciting, silly complexity. Plans of going to New York? Beautifully rendered maps, addresses and GPS coordinates help you identify the rooftops.
