The world of type is growing like crazy. That’s because the number of users has increased from a hand full of professional designers to a billion trillion computer owner who all want their texts to look cool, funny, funky, special. Luckily Gestalten has created Type Navigator, a comprehensive handbook of modern fonts, independent foundries and innovative type designers. The book has plenty of in dept information to be relevant for designers. At the same time it is accessible enough for people who are simply interested in today's typography. Good to know: the book comes with a free digital collection of typeface variations on a cd rom. The downside to that: the cd only gives you one or two typefaces from a family so you end up buying the rest, assuming that you won’t be searching for illegal free copies online...
