Toscanini

Toscanini Venticinque is a homage to the 25th anniversary of CaffeToscanini, an Italian restaurant here in Amsterdam. Although it is not a book that we would usually sell, we’ve selected it anyhow - for numerous reasons. First of all, we’re from Amsterdam and we love the place. But what struck us mostly was the impact of the book. Toscanini claims they are in favour of the simple Italian cuisine where the purest of ingredients do the work. And that is exactly what the book does. Compared with Noma’s book (hey, we are comparing Toscanini with Noma) where food and preparation has almost become art, Toscanini presents their ingredients the way they cook them - as pure, raw and unpolished as can be. In fact, the photos present the ingredients so realistic, they almost look naked. And that is interesting, because it makes you aware of what’s really cooking.
