Supercell
Kevin Erskine
Kevin Erskine’s Supercell reminds us how frighteningly close beauty is connected to devastation. A supercell is a thunderstorm that is characterised by the presence of a mesocyclone. We won’t be able to give you the exact definition of a mesocyclone, but it means business - that’s a sure thing. Erskine, who witnessed his first storm at the age of twelve and is fascinated by this force of nature ever since, began taking his first photographs with his father’s camera. Now he captures different formations of cloud masses with his large-format camera - before thunderstorm, during tornado, shined on by the red evening sun or black by night. Where there’s a storm, there is Kevin. Capturing terrifying beauty.
