Helmut Newton (born as Helmut Neustädter in 1920) hit quite a few walls in his life. He had to flee from Germany in 1938. When he first started as a press photographer, he failed miserably. But when he finally got to Paris his career went through the roof. His provocative, dominant, voyeuristic ‘porn-chic’ has set a new standard. Settings full of diamonds, dollars, champagne, cars and loads of gorgeous women - preferably naked. The world had never see anything like it and feminist groups were not amused. Helmut couldn’t care less, as Erwin Olaf subtly highlighted in a Dutch tv show. The last wall was the one he accidentally drove his Cadillac into in 2004.
Content-wise this book is 99% similar to the monumental Sumo. Sumo was published in 2000 and kick started the trend in XL limited edition books. Although, limited... 10.000 copies were printed and that is huge. The small version comes with a perspex book stand. A beautiful way to present this book, and other pearls in your book collection. Book stands are also sold separately.
