Marilyn & Me
A Memoir in Words and Photographs
In 2011 Taschen published a wonderful limited edition about Marilyn Monroe and now they publish a new one – what’s the point? Well, the point is this one is serious magic and it's been 50 years since she died. This book is the story of a young photographer who experienced the photo shoot of a lifetime. Taschen describes it perfectly, with their movie-trailer-like introduction: The year was 1962, and 25 year old photographers Lawrence Schiller, was on assignment for Paris Match magazine. He already knew Marilyn – they had met on the set of Let’s Make Love – but nothing could have prepared him for the day she appeared nude during a swimming pool scene for the motion picture Something’s Got to Give...
Whether the photos in the book are really that good - we'll leave that up to you. But it is Monroe and that's what makes them special in a magical way. Check the live footage from the pool scene and keep in mind that it has been shot just a couple of months before she mysteriously died, plus that all that has been 50 years ago - and still she's able to capture people. I guess that's what the Marilyn magic is all about.
The book is expected to arrive by the end of May and comes in a Collector’s Edition of 1,721 copies (signed and numbered) and two Art Editions of 125 copies, each with an original photograph. The Collector’s Edition can now be pre-ordered. If you are interested in the Art Edition, contact us.
