Magnum Archive
A Year In Photography
The fact Prestel was able to create this book is just a miracle. You must know that Magnum, founded two years after the Second World War, is the most prestigious photographic agency in the world. Magnum’s library contains over one million physical photographs. The online archive measures over 500,000 images and counting. Altogether, Magnum has become a chronicle of the world. Think of an iconic photo and it probably came from Magnum. That’s where the miracle part comes in. I mean, how do you select 365 images if there are at least a hundred perfectly good alternatives for each and every one of them? But the selection was made, and that resulted in a wonderful book. The title is misleading though. It is not so much a year in photography but a seasonal compilation of 365 image from the vast archive of Magnum - one for every day of the year. Square, bulky and brick-like, Magnum A Year In Photography is the most suitable book to severely hurt someone with - and we sincerely apologize for sharing this thought with you.
