Gucci
The Making Of
There’s something attractive about imperfection- probably because it is human. Imperfection is extra cool when it concerns seemingly immaculate institutes, like Gucci - although they have an incident or two in the past they are not terribly proud of. But mostly the brand is the synonymous for beauty, glamour and perfection. Gucci The Making Of is a wonderfully documented publication, edited by Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini, showcasing Gucci like never before. All perfect, until page 183, where we see an indefinable product. We can imagine the scene where a designer and an editor are discussing this specific image, going:
“What the f*ck is this?”
“Don’t know. It looks like sadomasochistic gear to me... although you understand I wouldn’t know what that looks like, of course...”
“Whatever.. but S&M is not too Gucci...”
“Is it barbecue equipment?”
“Gucci and BBQ... you really don’t get the concept, do you?”
“Shiit, I don’t know man, Lorem Ipsum it for now and ask someone some time.”
Now know that ‘Lorem Ipsum’, is placeholder text for graphic designers. And the product on the page actually is a Gucci barbecue tool set (!) you can buy for a ridiculous € 8,000.00. The product doesn’t make sense and therefore this Lorem Ipsum text is a lovely piece of imperfection, that makes us love this book even more. And with its € 65.00 this great book probably is the least expensive Gucci item you can buy.
