Erwin Olaf
2A
We are biased when it comes to Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf because he’s from Amsterdam and he likes MENDO. But there’s more to be enthusiastic about. I once visited one of his lectures. The way he spoke about his work, ambitions and personal struggles was very impressive. And there is the works. Time after time Erwin is able to reinvent himself. After some extremely extravagant work in the early days, the work in this book is more or less subdued. The atmosphere is completely different, but it is unmistakably Olaf. With it’s 110 pages the price tag is pretty heavy. But the printing is so brilliant, that it’s worth every penny, dime, cent, yen or rupee you spend on it.
In december 2011 Lido Books released an XL publication on Olaf's full oeuvre that was sold out instantly. The regular edition of this book is expected in 2012. Make sure you are informed about the release. Subscribe to our newsletter, follow us @mendoamsterdam or join us on Facebook.
