Dennis Hopper
Photographs 1961-1967
Dennis Hopper was one of the great actors of our time - and our parents’ time. In 1955 the first movie he played in was Rebel Without A Cause featuring James Dean. In his last appearance in 2010 his voice could be heard in the animated film Alpha and Omega. Between those two, Hopper directed, wrote and starred in countless movies and tv series. And as if that wasn’t enough Hopper was working on a serious photographic career- he basically carried a camera everywhere as we can see in this book. Among many, Hopper portrayed Tina Turner in the studio, Andy Warhol at his first West Coast Show, Paul Newman on set and Martin Luther King during the Civil Rights March. That’s the good part of the book. But this volume also makes us wonder: why this specific period? What makes these particular photos stand out from the rest? Why this disturbing lay-out? Why so extensive? Our humble opinion: a little bit too much of everything.
