Cycle Style
Horst A. Friedrichs
In many countries people say: hey you have a bike, so… you're cool. Here in Holland we say: hey you have a bike, so… what? I also have a toothbrush, but I'm not changing my Facebook profile pic for that either, do I? We're slightly exaggerating, because we actually do have real bikers and we have some utterly cool bikes. But 99 out of 100 are just rubbish on wheels*, unlike the cycling culture in our beloved London. Cycle Style is all about that - bikes as a fashion accessory. It's a lovely little book with bike riding personallities photographed in a Facehunter type of style. Plus it learns you that Paul Smith has some very decent fixed gear skills. We love the disclaimer of the book, telling you to always wear a helmet - patronizing USA style.
*Amsterdam has a population of 780,000 riding some 820,000 bikes - which means a whole lot of rubbish on wheels.
