Carine Roitfeld
Irreverent
We have to rush to write a review about this book, because we just can’t keep this book in store for half a day. Carine Roitfeld is hot as hell. Roitfeld (1954), former model and most of all former Editor-in-Chief of the French Vogue, doesn’t understand the hype either. Her book reads like the My Best Friends book any fashionista would die for - with personal notes, comments and pics from friends like Tom F, Kate M (of course), Mario T, Terry R, and Gisele B - even Anna W is saying nice things about her. And in between, a portfolio with the most amazing, sexy editorial photo shoots, accompanied by Roitfeld’s personal comments. Roitfeld claims she doesn’t understand the fuzz, and by saying that she is being utterly modest. Granted, the paranoia around the publication is overdone, but this lady is a big girl in fashion. And that book is the reasonably good curriculum vitae for her next job interview.
Something we’ve learned from this book: if you are writing a personal note and the stationary has your name on it as a logo, draw a line through the logo. This will show that a) the note is personal and b) you’re a big shot. Tom Ford does that, Helmut Lang does that; you’d better start doing it.
