Babeth
If Tom Ford’s book is the Mother of Coffee Table Books, this one by Babeth is her very exciting sister. Obviously there are some typographical resemblances. And you can tell by the books that both of them work without compromising. Babeth is Elisabeth Djian, French fashion editor. Some of the most renowned photographers, designers, stylists and models began working for Babeth. There’s just a handful of men in this entire book. Coincidence or a statement? We couldn’t care less. Her book is the most brutal portfolio one can ever have. And it is definitely a MENDO classic. The book was published by Edition 7L, the publishing house of Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld is a huge book lover. Some say he owns over 300.000 books, which is basically 150 MENDO’s. This may seem to be a bit of an exaggeration, but if you have seen his studio in The Selby, you may very well believe that it is not.
